Digitizing Vehicle Inspections for Modern Fleet Operations
As a Freelance Product Designer for Kubikx, a venture builder focused on next-generation logistics, I joined their early-stage venture Checkturio. The product replaces pen-and-paper inspections with an AI-driven digital solution. Over twelve months, I led the design of both the native app used by drivers to capture vehicle conditions and the portal used by fleet managers to review data and make operational decisions.
The Problem
Vehicle inspections were slow, inconsistent, and prone to errors. Pen-and-paper workflows left fleet managers with incomplete visibility into vehicle conditions, making it difficult to track damage or understand its cause. Many drivers had limited digital experience and diverse language backgrounds, which created resistance to adopting new tools. The challenge was to design a simple, intuitive app suitable for non-digital-native drivers while giving fleet managers accurate, real-time insights they could trust.
Goal
The objective was to replace fragmented manual processes with a streamlined digital system that speeds up inspections, improves accuracy, and delivers reliable condition reports. The solution needed to support AI-driven damage detection for drivers and give fleet managers immediate access to clear, actionable information that improves operational decision-making.
Hypothesis
If drivers received a guided, automated inspection experience supported by AI, adoption would increase and documentation would become more consistent. This would give fleet managers dependable insight into their vehicles, enabling faster decisions, better accountability, and more efficient operations – ultimately improving business performance for both Checkturio and its customers.
Responsibilities
I led the end-to-end design process, from research and workflow mapping to interaction design and testing. I created an inspection app that guides drivers through capturing images, identifying damage, and submitting reports, and a portal that organizes all incoming data into an accessible, decision-focused interface. I iterated repeatedly based on investor’s needs and collaborated closely with engineering to bring both products to launch.
Final Design
The native app emphasized clarity, minimal interaction steps, and language-independent guidance. It combined AI-powered damage detection with a structured photo flow and a simple checklist, helping drivers complete inspections quickly and confidently. The portal translated this data into a clear overview for fleet managers, offering chronological condition reports, comparisons over time, and privacy-safe benchmarking against anonymized peers. Together, the app and portal formed a cohesive system that delivered accurate, real-time operational insight without unnecessary complexity.
Outcome
The venture launched successfully and has continued to operate as a growing, active company. The product became a key component of their offering, supporting digitalization in an environment where manual workflows had dominated for decades.
